Diesel Honda Superdream 1980 modified to run on vegetable oil SVO or WVO
Honda Superdream fitted with a Changfa 170 220cc diesel engine (Cloned Yanmar) the engine has now covered 1000miles from new and has just been serviced.
The transmission is a reconditioned Villiers 4 speed gearbox, the primary drive is oil immersed chain and Villiers clutch these are both new. Secondary drive new chain and rear sprocket.
Interestingly the total weight for the new Diesel engine , gearbox and drive is 15kg lighter than the original Honda power unit !
The bike comes with spare oil filter, air filter, both fuel filters, rear sprocket , 2 different sized engine sprockets , spare fuel injector and spare fuel injector pump , cylinder gaskets and rear shock absorbers
This bike was built as project fuelled on waste oil from the local schools kitchens. On Oil seed rape oil at the last check it was returning 160 Mpg the best ever achieved 194 Mpg
The bike has a duel fuel system with two fuel tanks and a 6 port electrical change over valve, fitted with an injector temperature gauge. When the engine has reached normal operating temperature (2 miles ) the fuel can be switched over to unmodified vegetable oil at a flick of a switch. The changeover is seamless and the only real noticeable difference is a more pleasant aroma and of course fossil free power
The fuel system has a separate electrical pump so the system is self bleeding and any residue veg oil can be flushed from the system
The bike has 11 Months Mot and Tax and currently waiting for the V5 returned from DVLA
All parts for the engine and the Villiers parts are readily available and I think very reasonably priced
This year is had a new battery and the tyres are in good condition. The bike is in reasonable / good condition for its age and the engine and transmission as good as new
It’s a real eye opener and discussion topic wherever you take it , It has been to shows as an exhibit.
I recon the top speed is around 43 mph and happy to cruse 35-40 mph so forget it is your a speedy but if your an Eco based person or hate buying fuel and want to chuff around on renewable free fuel it may be of interest. Starting is usually 1st or 2nd kick , the bike has been extremely reliable. Insurance for me is £115 (James Footman)
Known crumbly bits , there is a minor dent in the fuel tank, the headlight shell has a crack ( I have a spare but haven’t had the time to change it ) there are some rust spots on the front mudguard The fork seals will need replacing before the next MOT .The indicators mountings have been bashed when moving it out of the garage but on the whole very presentable and original . The foot rest positions has been moved forward to make it more comfortable for 6 ft people
Is an enthusiastic bike and with scope to play with the gearing or even a larger engine from the same series would be an easy fit, 178 (300cc) or a 186 (400cc )if you feel the need.

Comes with a full tank of Veg oil and a Bio Fuel 1micron filter sock for filtering your waste oil
