Another 2 Stroke Diesel Bike

Post by pietenpol2002 »

Here's a 2 stroke diesel fired Dnepr utilizing the single cylinder Czech Slavia 1D90TA. Of interest is the reference to its ability to haul a ton of cargo and achieve something approaching 65-70 km/hr (I presume not simultaneously).

And here's that engine on the dyno

This shot of the naked engine shows the intake and exhaust at the base of the cylinder. But curiously, every pic I've seen confirms the absence of a blower. Does not a 2 cycle diesel require a blower of some sort for purposes of scavenging?

A 2-stroke diesel can be crankcase-scavenged, just like a 2-stroke gasoline engine.

The downside to that approach is that lubrication is more complex than on a blower-scavenged 2-stroke diesel or a 2-stroke gasoline engine, and usually involves directly delivering oil to the points that require lubrication, rather than mixing it with the intake air or having a normal 4-stroke-like setup.
