Agreed value = good?

Post by Crazymanneil »

Hey,

In the process of trying to get insurance (bike coming on ok, editing video to post soon I promise!). Got one quote from a company and I asked them if the value I gave them (at time of quote) was "agreed". They said it wasn't but could sort that for me too. So I told them I'd not proceed with the quote til the value was agreed. They referred it to another department, requested info, photos yadda yadda.

So after I called them back today (they didn't call me) they eventually said they want more pics but the agreed value would not be the full value I gave at time of quote (which presumably affected the price of the quote!). So in event I needed to claim the agreed value would act as a ceiling leaving me out of pocket.

Now am I right in thinking I'd be better off just not bothering giving them more info and having no agreed value as the quote was setup originally? In that case if I needed to claim I can point out the value I stated on the policy and the fact I have reciepts for everything! I could take this to court/ombudsman/whatever if they were playing hardball?

Of course I really hope it never comes to this, but when they are charging over the odds for the insurance you'd like to think its to give a higher level of cover... (insert cynical comment here)

Hi Niel, think you should go for an agreed value other wise you will end up with the market value of the standard bike and whats that going to be compared to what you have spent on your build, no where near i bet! :(

Hey yes I read up a bit more and I see its market value, presumably without mods. Annoying they ask the price you paid for the bike and then ask the value now then isn't it! Use the new value to bump up the premium but then the old value if you have to claim. Russa frussa hate insurance!
