Yanmar states first biobike = Wrong!

Post by andrewaust »

This one made me laugh as it is clear some companies will say anything to draw attention before doing some PR work.

I was looking for some of the new details for the EPA Yanmars which are now 435cc'c (getting larger), coming across a statement that Yanmar has contributed to making the first biobike "which is the biobike that the University of Adelaide done", little do they know there totally wrong - even the first for OZ was broken in 95 with the shipment of Diesel Factory Enfields.

Here is what Yanmar quotes - taken straight from there text http://www.yanmar.co.jp/english/aboutus ... 060901.htm

This is the world's first bike to run on bio diesel fuel and the engine of choice is a Yanmar air-cooled diesel engine.
At the SAFF (South Australia Farm Fuel) booth, a bio ethanol car as well as bio diesel fuelling pump was displayed.
SAFF, along with the South Australia Government and Yanmar are joint sponsors for the BioBike.
Current speed record is 100km/h, however increased power is to be expected with the addition of turbo charger in the future.
While there is some noise and vibration coming from the bike, it well within acceptable limits.

My research also shows my beast is the first home converted registered diesel bike running on bio in OZ - wonder if I should rain in on there parade now or later -

Cheers

Yours looks better too!

Yanmar, and most other large companies, have no interest in researching the truth. They even claimed that the 2V78 was the first V-Twin diesel made!

Hi Byrdman

Thanks for that mate, there's some really neat bikes the guy's are building and posting here - it's a credit to you all. Some of those bikes are a work of craftsman.

Hope I didn't sound fat headed with the comment about my beast - I'm actually ticked off with Yanmar due to the experience I had when I contacted them ages ago before I got hold of the just as well manufactured clone Yanmar.

You should have heard the attitude when I told the sales guy what I wanted it for, gee! it was like I was asking for a freebie or something.

Then what do you know - hay presto they fund a Biobike project "what gives" then to add insult to injury - claim it's a world first.

I don't know, hard one to explain hay.

Oh yep - I couldn't help myself, actually sent a priority email to Yanmar and gave them the what's for.

MMMM! wonder if I'll hear back from them :D

Cheers
