Verifying oil delivery

Post by fishlegs »

Greaves 435 here. I'm curious if anyone has advice on monitering engine oil delivery. Having just removed, cleaned and reinstalled my cylinder, head, etc., I noticed that the previous assembler sloppily used sealants on the pushrod fittings, cylinder base, and head gasket. I only used a sealant (minimal) for the cylinder base during reassembly and all is running well. However, I now worry that some of the hardened sealant from the previous assembler could have flaked into the lower end at some point in time and may one day block an oil lifter leading to dire consequences. I'm not sure that my worry would make me go so far as to dismantle the lower-end, but I would like to moniter oil delivery on a continuous basis just in case.

if any sealant has flaked into the sump then it has to pass through the filter.

If there's no evidence showing when cleaning the oil filter then you will be fine.

If you wanted to be certain then remove the sump and clean off the sludge (there will be some) stuck to the inside. The gasket ALLWAYS tears so have a replacement ready.
