Hamm Rally - Germany 2009
Ok I just fancied putting the title into the Events & Rideouts folder.
On a more serious note..... Roll Call !
Who's goin' and by what route?

Sorry dont think I am going this year, only just got back from Ireland tour.Hamm no matter how you look at it is 4 days driving for two days rally. If I go in the van its £200 in diesel + ferry, if I go on bike it means 2 camping days and 4 day riding on boring motorways. If however someone wants to go & split the cost of van I could be persuaded to go.

Hamm the quick way
I did an earlier post but it seems to have got lost?
Hi Sam, really sad your unable to go this year, perhaps we shall meet up at Stafford.
I'm doing my usual short run getting the Harwich overnight ferries so I only need to take Friday off work and have just 200 miles to cover through Holland to Hamm.
It's a costly ferry at £119 return but gives me 2 nights accommodation and I can leave work Thurs and be back at my desk on the Monday morning.
I could always ride your bike over for you

Just a quick note to bump the subject back into life...
You have just 6 weeks to finish building, fettling, registering, and get some shake down miles under your belt.
For my part if Motobins don't come good with the Hepco luggage for the Tiger then I'm gonna be strapping shopping bags all over the back end.

Re: Hamm Rally - Germany 2009- Routes
Just a bit of information that may help someone.
I have found whilst by no means scenic, the route that goes from Antwerp to Venlo past Eindhoven is easier for slow moving bikes. There is not the hassle with lorries not being able to overtake.. I usually take this route in a semi state of lostness. Follow any sign that says Hannover or Munster. You will eventually get to a cross roads where you need to choose one or the other instead of both. Choose Hannover and get off a stop or two along it..for the turn off to Hamm.

You lucky buggers !! I'll have to get my finger out one year and get over for a look see.
So do you think the Hamm Rally is getting bigger each year or relatively staying the same ?

Re: Hamm Rally - Germany 2009
I counted best part of 100 bikes a year or so ago if I remember correctly. Some years are slightly better than others as they don't always advertise it it's growing steadily. It's always great to pitch up and watch what comes rolling in That's why I try to arrive Thursday night. If anyone wants to jump a ferry from Newhaven Wednesday morning let me know as I'm going on my own this year.

Re: Hamm Rally - Germany 2009
I've just made my ferry booking so I guess I'm committed now.
Outbound Thurs 10 Sep 23:45 from Harwich arrives Hook of Holland 07:45, 200 miles up the motorway and I should be at Brauhoff Wilshaus by 10:15 (only kidding even the mighty Tiger can't maintain an 80mph average) so should be there lunchtime. put me down for lots of pork and crackling please.
I have to return on the Sunday night ferry - land in the UK at 06:30 and be at my desk for 09:00
Of course I'm still waiting for the Tigers luggage to arrive but I did manage to fit the tank bag yesterday.
Ferry costs 177 quid so it's not the cheapest option, but it is the easiest, skip the evening meal option though as it's expensive and rubbish. Breakfast is 8 quid too!
See y'all either on the Ferry or at the event.
Cheers
Dave

Re: Hamm Rally - Germany 2009
I dont think I will be going this year. The nights are really drawing in by the time the rally is on and poss iffy weather.
But if you go see if you can influence future rallies to be July or August I would try to make it every year then. For me its 500miles so thats 2 days one way pluss ferry. Nearer to July you could make a nice tour of Europe. Anyway for those that are going hope you have a good rally.

Re: Hamm Rally - Germany 2009
For those who would like to stay and party for while longer, there's the European Bike week at Faak am see, September 8-13.
I have heard from a guy in the local Harley shop it realy is worth going to, he also told me it was free.
http://www.europeanbikeweek.com
I can't go this year, got too much work on but next year
Sorry, I just found out it is not Faak am see in France, its Faak am see in Austria (there are two it seems), so a heck of a long way from Hamm, and France where I thought the event was set. I don't know why they don't say where it's at on their flyers and website.
It's also a Harley Davidson run event, but if your not really in to Harleys don't worry there's loads of bands on day and night etc
Damn!! Just realized that both the Hamm and Bike week run at the same time, sorry I thought Hamm was sooner than that. Oh well, the Bike week is run from 7th - 12 sept next year 2010 lets hope that Hamm will be different dates next year so I can do them both

For those who need to split their journey in two, I can reccomend:
G R O E N E D I J K
MOTORCYCLE LOFT HOTEL
Groenedijkstraat 5a
8460 Oudenburg
B E L G I U M
Tel. +32 (0)59 26 85 40
E-mail info@grd.be
GPS: N51°11'30" E02°59'03"
http://www.grd.be
This is a biker hotel of good quality and just this side of Ostend Belgium.
I've used them a few times as it is a long ride for me from the south west to get anywhere in Europe, and breaks the journey (there and back) nicely in two halves.

Re: Hamm Rally - Germany 2009
Finally the pannier frames and boxes have arrived:
Brilliant - 38 litres each and enough space to strap the big tent over the top, this year's gonna be a comfortable one.
I thought for a while I was going to use my shopping bag versions:
50p each, been to Wales and back with full camping gear - brilliant.
Cheers

I hope those are Metal Mule Dave? My Cus does all the welding on them. Best Ally welder they ever saw I'm told
I'm booked in on Monday's 10.30am Newhaven to Dieppe Ferry. Should give me plenty of time to get there Will probably camp in Peronne first night (the posh campsite as they sell eggs )

Are the different mirrors a Heiko modification
'92 Enfield + Hatz 1B40: street legal, weld up stainless exhaust, check engine rpm and change final drive sprocket.

No that's a falling off the stand modification!
The cases are Hepco & Becker; in keeping with the Germanic theme and the only ones I could find willing to supply frames for the Tiger Mk1.
Getting excited now.

Re: Hamm Rally - Germany 2009
For those intending on using the Thurs night Harwich - Hook of Holland boat.
The Morrisons supermarket just opposite the port entrance shuts at 8pm so this blows the chance of a cheap meal before setting off on the ferry.
I will probibly take a quick trip into the town centre for a spot of supper prior to getting on the boat, from memory there is a chippy close to the inland lighthouse and the green next door to this. It's the weekend of the air ambulance bike ride so the town will be getting prepared for about 3000 bikes to decend on them Sat morning.
Cheers

Ok this an attempt at posting from my phone so fingers crossed it will work,
It,s all over for another year, old frends reaquainted and new ones made.
A good run both ways and managed to overtake a few other vehicles this time I that,s Tiger power for you.
I,M waiting for the return ferry to Blighty, somehow I managed to get to the port 4 hours early - the Tiger is a bit quicker than the Enfield.
Cheers all
