Possible Club names

I have cheap insurance mate. On the insurance thing I wanted people to list who they were with what deal they were on and what they were paying, for the benifit of all, but as I was the only one that posted what I was paying It didnt work. Over the weekend at Uttoxeter probably 1000 photos of my bike were taken, if the only thing you do is bat and ball you are allways preaching to the converted. All the clubs there & I will name just a few, the ariel club, goldwing club,Bsa club, greaves club,vincent club, the list goes on & on, with the exception of the kettle club ( 750 watercooled club) get my point yet the name has to refer to what we ride.
I dont want anybody to take offence at my remarks but If you want to start a club & I am all in favour of starting one.The name is secondary to what the club is going to do. Also it should only be British as it wont affect any of our overseas friends as we always have the forum that is an excellent way of exchange of knowledge and ideas.

I think I get what you're saying, Sam...
We need to:
i) agree on a club name. It doesn't really matter what it is - Diesel Owners MCC/whatever. Maybe we can set up a poll on here or something similar?
ii) get a nice simple logo sorted likewise
iii) there needs to be a formal membership system so you're either "in" or not - nothing political though. I don't think membership of this forum is good enough. Maybe as a contribution to the running of this (very useful to all of us) site Stuart should set up a spreadsheet or simple database - you pay a fiver to him and you're a club member for a year. Maybe get access to a few different pages on the Dieselbike website with meet details etc but nothing really different needed than this forum with perhaps a new section or two. If there's money left over then it can go behind the bar at the Bat & Ball (or wherever) each year (edit... Stuart, not trying to create work here for you! 'Tis your website though and am just thinking of the easiest/best solution )
iii) and probably most importantly of all (and I think what Sam was getting at) - the above means we now have an identity. We should then start making an effort to attending some of the larger bike meets - in particular those with multiple club representation. Get a name for ourselves. Even failing that having all of the above means rather than just having turned up (on an individual basis) on a diesel bike we, like everyone else, actually have something we're part of too - and can direct them to the website/forum if they're interested. The Bat & Ball is great but it's for those already hooked - having a "club" and attending some bigger rallies means we'll doubtless get more interest, more people on this forum, maybe more people building/buying diesel bikes and subsequently more people at the Bat & Ball/Hamm rallies.
I also agree that we'll keep it British. I think the German guys might already have something set up. If not, they should sort something too - the Bat & Ball/Hamm rallies then become a meeting of clubs from around the world.

Whilst it may only be a small club to start with you have to start somewhere with a name and a logo we can attend other meetings and spread the message.
I have suggested in the rally section we might want to attend F2 motorcycles on 3rd August they have a Vintage bike meet and a slower than normal ride out.
With lovely August weather a workshop full of Urals and Jawas plus camping at £3 a night and a pub to stagger to.F2 motorcycles is centrally located for this Country and is easier to get to for those coming from Germany or Holland than the Bat and Ball.
Just off the M40 and in the centre of England it would be an ideal location plus I think the owner of F2 would like the publicity.He even has a workshop and spares for at least Enfields.
So have we agreed on a name.

I agree with your ideas guys. Representation at the bigger meetings would certainly put us on the map as it were. Not sure is there are enough of us around to make a big impact at the moment but it will grow in time. Myself and Diesel Dave did the Beaulie thing a while back and there wasn't many ppl on the Dorsett memorial run.
Yeah, finding the time to set up a club is gonna be an issue for me. They have me working too hard It's where to find the time for admin. I hear that other clubs take turns doing club admin and stuff.

Well, I guess we pretty much are the Dieselbike.net club! I know there are a couple of Yahoo groups/forums also but Diesel Dave is pretty active on them and so I'm sure will bring people over if need be.
Stuart - I've no problem at all with helping out with admin. My thoughts were that really there shouldn't have to be any or very little - just a way of distinguishing those who are simply registered on this forum and/or members of other clubs in their own countries and our own "register". Will have to put our heads together and think of the best way to sort.

I've no problem with us running an 'outlaw' patch. The German guys are using the Diesel motif on their shirts and most ppl turned up to the first UK rally using suspect fuel. Hell, there were more of our guys breaking the law there and then than at most other biker gatherings
It goes against the grain to follow. I'd rather make my own path and let others follow. Rules were made to be broken. And I think by riding the bikes we do we're different enough to be different. Ppl almost expect it of us. Maybe no point in stiring it with back patches but the other guys suggestion of DMC sounds good to me. Besides, isn't motorcycle one word? Where did this other 'c' come from with MCC? And clubs are on much friendlier terms theses days aren't they?

Seems like some good suggestions coming out now. When we have agreed on a name may I suggest just running a few off and inflating the price a bit to cover your costs and running the forum. I am ok with the bat & ball, but just a few observations the run out ought to be just after lunch, if the Germans want to go touring well tough, also try not to pick unmarked roads that seemed to be covered in ball bearings. The one place I think we should consider in addition to the B&B is the VJMC that I just attended at Uttoxeter next year, very central & if it grows as much next year as it did this year is likely to be the bigget event in the country.
As a member of the VJMC I can arrange. On onother note I will be attending the RAF cosford bikemeet sunday 13july 10am-4pm, everbody welcome museum free.

I assume most have heard of oilgae - biodiesel from algae. In my opinion this is by far the most promising alternative to dinosaur fuel, once research has produced efficient harvesting and conversion processes. Look at the yield compared to other plant based oils:

Do Yanks get to weigh in on this one? How about "DEMO" (diesel-engine motorcycle owners,or organization)? It gives a sort of-thrasher-impression, not inappropriate for rebels-with-an-obscure-cause...Club Demo, Demo Group, the annual Demo-Derby, etc.
Also like: CIBA (compression-Ignition Bikers Assoc.), TDC (Top-Dead-Center), DEBRA (diesel-Engine Bike Riders' Assoc.), DOG: UK DOG, US DOG,or DEER (diesel-engine enthusiast riders), DEBOG (diesel engine bike owners group), DE-SMOG (Diesel Engined-Sooty Motorcycle Owners' Group) and BIG KNOCKERS (don't know if that one would be universally acceptable...) or BIG KNOCK BIKERS.

Regarding a particular message a ways up this thread, would the admin's please clarify for some of us that this Club is to be a purely British effort with the exclusion of other nationalities, and if so, why? This conversation stopped abruptly several days ago, though I'd like to see it continuing. As with some other enthusiasts, I was by fate born in US and am wondering if that's somehow a mark against me...though my dad grew up in Halifax, Yks., my wife's mom in Doncaster. Isn't it better to make alliances around the globe--united we stand, etc.? Let us know if we're allowed in the "clubhouse" or if we have to play somewhere else. I've found the info gathered here inspiring and enriching, but perhaps there are boundaries I wasn't aware of. Thanks.

I see no particular reason why our colonial cousins may not join in the thread.
It is not the present generations fault that their great grandfathers would not pay taxes.
As for joining the club just so long as they dont go on about converting Harley Davidsons to Diesel choppers.I dont mind the odd one but not like the Tuttles.
I have suggested that a poll be taken with all the suggestions for names etc.
I feel it would come better from one of the moderators .

Jeremy, I think the idea was merely that it might be nice to have a UK diesel bikers club. It was in no way a reflection on this forum which is most definitely global and all the better for it.
An American diesel biker at the UK rally (next June!) would certainly be a first

It transpires my bike has an oval front brake drum which makes braking from anything near 40mph or above bordering on life threatening - so wheel is currently off and will be getting the drum skimmed in the next few days down at Gard Auto in Rayleigh.
(Diesel) Dave stopped by for an hour yesterday (first time we've met after missing each other several times) so it was good to meet. His bike sounds great with the new engine and seems to produce hardly any smoke. Still running mine in but now I've turned the wick up a little it's chucking out black smoke so... max fuel has been wound in, I now want to adjust the governor springs.
You have no idea how lucky you are with your engine. Like Dave's I believe all the governor settings sit right at the front. On mine they're in a 3/4" gap between the engine and gearbox and an absolute ******* to get to. I'm in the process of cutting up coat hangers as I desperately do not want to have to start removing things.
So, hopefully everything will be back in one piece so I can attend the Southend brekkie at the end of the month! Look forward to meeting you there hopefully.

Yes they sit at the front so not to bad for adjustment.
Hope you dont find any more surprises on your bike.
I have added another 1000 miles since its last major tantrum so i have at least had some fun.
Only fault was the bolt holding the fuel filter broke the casting on the head but nothing serious just a touch of two part epoxy and it will never move again.

I liked the name DMC, but dmc.com and dieselmc.com are both taken. dieselmotorcycleclub.com and dieselmcc.com are available, but the first one is too long and the latter isn't quite dmc.

I tried to just make a poll, but I could not make one big enough to include all of the suggestions.

Perhaps more importantly than the eventual choice of a name: may I add from my vantage-point that it might serve all to keep club membership worldwide, rather than restricting it to UK only--why not illustrate the true extent of our amateur diesel-motorcycling interest? It could certainly be broken into national or even other smaller chapters, if there was the desire for some sense of national identity there.
I like the idea of bonding across oceans, and suggest that it happens best at this very humble scale, certainly better than in higher channels these days!
P.S.--my bike is styled to resemble a '60's clubman, not a chopper for what it's worth...
