Don't quite know how I missed this until now...
After dropping the development plans in 2005 VW are apparently planning on launching their 1L/100km car in 2010.

The concept version used a 300cc naturally aspirated diesel engine - slip nicely into a bike see-

There is also rumours that they are going to team up with KTM to go into bike and 3 wheeler production so maybe we'll see the first production diesel bike from a 'major' manufacturer (Guess the Enfield diesel wouldn't count?) or trike coming from VW?

Interesting links Darren, thanks for posting them up.
How I'd love to get my hands on a Diesel dirt bike that is fully compliant and registered.
The Enfield is great, but don't think it's a good idea to go totally bush .
There's a downer here regarding diesels, fuel prices including bio is 30 to 40 cents in the dollar higher then petrol = BUGGER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! , so the economy of a diesel is screwed up with the price gap.
Still nice to chug around on the diesel though, no ignition or any other stuff to worry about, just start and ride
