To have something to do in the corona situation, i am installing the lazy engine again, but leave out the governer spring and attch throttle direct to the lower governer arm, so the pump will deliver at max..
Pietenpol guess who sold me this engine.. i'm quite stuck with it.. hope this time i can ge some power out of it, if not sell the engine at considerable loss..

Some time ago i contacted the seller -again- for a possiblesolution.. like sending me a used, but good engine which does give a good output, or a refund or anything,
Not a single response anymore.
Alltogether i cannot recommend buying a 192 winsun engine..

Have you chatted with Henry over at Priceparts? As he's now offering the 498cc option, he may have some thoughts about that engine.
Guess about who we are talking about..

Doesn't bode well!!! Most unfortunate.Just picked up another Z482 today if you'd like it. Although I fear shipping might be a bit prohibitive.

That's a watercooled kubota twin? If you find them, is it true that it is very expensive if you have to overhaul them? (and i think you will need a different subframe?)
Nevertheless interesting..

A complete overhaul kit is about $400. But then, they can be had in running form here in the states for $150-200. As APU engines it's not uncommon to see them running fine yet at 15,000 hours. And yes, they require a different mounting than the Yanmars/clones. You've perhaps seen Diesel Dave's conversion thread.

Excellent engine in my friend's V50 Guzzi conversion. 55mph cruising (and, top speed, really!), about 100mpg.

I recall seeing a video of that Guzzi long ago. Sweet indeed. And I wonder if he could pull more that 55 mph if he had a taller final drive. Mouse's video demonstrates the little 482 is capable of 70 mph at full cry while maintaining 67 on the flat.

Mine tops out at 68 mph - that’s 3600 rpm and I haven’t touched the regulator settings so it starts holding back at 65.

I did a 200 mile trip last Monday to check on the belt drive and dry clutch setup as I’ve lightened up the clutch springs, and it’s returning a shade over 140mpg (imperial) so that’s 2.02 litres per 100 km or 116mpg US.

Z482’s have a weird throttle response - you have to lead the rpm by a fraction, if you just pull the throttle wide open then you loose a little power.

I may play with the max rack and max rpm at some point but engines are expensive and hard to find in the U.K.

Apologies first to Arnaud for this departure from his question.

Great to have that update Dave. Can't wait to hear what you ultimately achieve with a bit of tweaking. I paid $150 this week for that 482. And $200 is not uncommon here. Seems we have the Kubotas and you've got the Enfields on that side of the pond (rather scarce over here).

Having done a 482 in an Enfield Dave, how feasible is it to consider its bigger brother the D902 in an Enfield? 53 kg vs 72 kg. Greater offset to the right, etc. etc. I just couldn't pass up a low hour one for $500 and I've got a couple of Enfields languishing in the shed. But, that extra cylinder would seem to be pushing it.

Ron, personally I think that would be pushing it a bit too far; Enfield frames are not the most robust materials and I’ve known a few problematic ones that cracked under diesel power.

I have 4 Enfield Bullets and the Kubota equipped one is definitely the heaviest, coolant adds a lot of weight after you have put the thing together, sit on it and think ‘this isn’t too heavy’, then you fill the cooling system and you add a lot of gravity.

Perhaps a sportster chassis would be more suitable for the bigger motor?

Thanks for confirming my fears Dave. I'll stick with the 482 for the Enfield and look for something more robust for the 902. But, do keep us abreast of any developments on your Z482 Enfield.

Apologies again Arnaud for this sidebar.

No problem..
Anyone has a tip to get the enfield DL front brake working?
after 2 wheels, 3 brake plates, 8 different linings scratching behind my ears..
The petrol bullet i have since a shorter time, has the same brake and works quite decently..

Took a look at the insides of the engine again.. sometime sit keeps me busy at night why it is not performing as it should, poor cold start and much less power then the smaller engine..
Someone suggested the timing marks could be off, but they were okay.
When opening throttle, you could see through the incpetion cover the pump arm moved all the way..
Am stuck with a newly purchased china engine, Please reader take this as a warining!

I have some new info; I measured the clearance between the pump stem and the cam in 'rest'. This is 0,3mm, seems okay.
the maximum lift is 8,2mm.

The cam itself looks okay (not unevenly worn of misshaped or so).
Does anyone recognise of have different data on camhight fo the fuel pump?

Or another reason this engine won't give enough power, and does not smoke, even not with the limitation screw totally removed? (pump arm does go all the way to the side)

After a long pause i have more info; There was rust in the injector, which is now re-assembled and adjusted and now functions well.
I built in the engine again and it has a normal stable idle but lacks a lot of power.

It is MUCH lazier then my 13hp 188 engine.

Governer springs in outer holes, limitation screw out, compression is good, injection timing to specs, valve play okay, there's smoke from the exhaust bot no power. in 4th gear it hardly accelerates anymore...

Swapped fuel pump, no effect..

Is this the risk of a China-engine?
