Ordering Punsun Engine versus EPA forms

Post by vmrod »

The other day, I searched and found someone that had received a Punsun engine from China. He was willing to offer advice on how to import said engine.

Now that I am registered, I can't seem to locate that person. 8)

Can someone hook me up with some info on this? Also, I wouldn't mind knowing how efficient this engine is, and other stuff about it.

I'm thinking of using this engine in a small 3-wheeler and wanted to know the feasibility of it.

vmrod,

Sorry mate Im not stateside so cant help with your import problem.
Ive got one of these engines though and have posted some stuff on it over time if you look about. Any other questions you got, post away or pm me. Happy to help.
Efficiency wise I was getting a little over 150mpg when I was testing the bike and as low as 132mpg when thrashing it a bit. Im still getting the gearing right at the moment and am confident 150mpg is achievable under normal road use.
With regards to using it in a 3 wheeler. Somewhere on here is a short video of a ural or dnepher sidecar outfit. Seems to be more than capable of pushing a chair around so I would imagine it would fit your needs fine.

I think these motors would be ideal for the three wheel kitcar based on a 2cv

I saw the video of the sidecar in action. Does this engine make that much smoke?

I was thinking of putting it in this...

That looks a wonderful little vehicle. Hard to say though if the Punsun would be suitable without knowing the vehicles weight, 20hp will only get you so far.

Aparently the Punsun smokes a lot less when it has a few hundred hours on the engine. Mines been a bit smokey under max load so I've been following advice and am experimenting with the max fuel setting.
It runs pretty cleanly under normal use though.

The vehicle weighs approx. 1300 pounds. The Punsun would drive the front wheels and an electric motor would turn the back wheel.

Since, the Punsun would get a little 'push' from the electric motor, it would not need to be sized for the entire vehicle.

vmrod,

Is that your trike in the picture?

If I had such a car I'd be looking for something with variable timing. At present the smallest engine I know of is the Smart car diesel engine. 800cc aluminium block, not sure how the weight compares to the Kabota engine that the XR3 was tested with (I just googled XR3 trike)

I think it is Lomardini who have a small, yet to be released, common rail engine - that would be nice.

Best

I was very intrested in the Punson till I was told they are welding the cranks together from single cylinder engines. Until I can verify that is not true I wouldn't touch one.

No,

that's not mine, but I plan on building one. I am trying to sell my corvette first, then I will construct one.

I really wanna build one that is all-electric, but cannot determine what the requirements would be for that.

Since the original plans call for a small diesel motor, I was looking into motors that would suit this design. High MPG and or all-electric is the idea.

Now, what are the requirements of using this motor on a street vehicle?
