Kubota thermostat option
Hi all
Any idea of any car thermostat elements that fit a kubota? I want to fit a higher temperature thermostat for efficiency but cannot find anything

D722
It's a 38mm diameter and 35mm high. Doesn't seem to be anything that matches those from my Google fu. Maybe I can modify the stat to open later?

There's always the option of an inline thermostat. Not cheap. Just depends on how desperate you are.

Re: Kubota thermostat option
ok now that we know what engine..... suggest you do an internet search for ( manual D722 , Carrier, Tractor, loader, "fork lift" ) and anything else you can think of that engine was used in. Then you can scan thru manuals to see recommendation for temp test of thermostat. This might lead to a clue on the temp thermostat you need. if it is a tractor you come up with.... I can help with that. Have access to many models part catalogs. Just need too know what models to search. Connection I've got is only searchable by tractor model sorry. Not many tractors used the D722 though but still might can help.

Re: Kubota thermostat option
Thanks all. stock thermostat opens at 82.
A G1900 has the D722 engine coach, but as far as I can tell this is the hottest stat they make for this engine. The only other ones they make are cooler for the marine engines etc.
An inline one would work well but my top hose is a 90 degree 1 inch rubber hose as the rad inlet sits RIGHT next to the head outlet so that rules that one out, unless I get a side exist stat housing as route the hose in a loop.
I suspect a hotter stat would be worth 3-4mpg at least, especially in winter.
The other option is to install a eletric water pump controller but davies craig say its not compatible with the brushed motors of their smaller pumps (like the one I use) and it would mean buying a new pump etc. It would allow me to remove the thermostat completely, but its very expensive and not worth it I think.

Re: Kubota thermostat option
that info lead to a part # and on to other tractors with D722 (Bx 1870 and Bx 1880) also your liable to find different applications used a different coolant tube (direction it exits the engine) Look for that too. Might help you configure something. Example the Miller Bobcat 250 & Trailblazer 302 Welders both use the D722 as well. Also the Bobcat 320 forklift
On the 3cyl Kubota's I hear the #1 cylinder is where most the issue creep up. Temps seem higher on that cylinder. Be aware of this if you go to a hotter thermostat.

Re: Kubota thermostat option
Thanks Coach. I remember having issues with the old D850 and not being able to cool it correctly. This is when the rad was behind the engine.
Had it up to 102+ a few times.
Thanks for the models. I find it good to hang around the USA ebay and look for hard to find kubota bits.

Re: Kubota thermostat option
It seems there are not any other options for this engine.
However, on the thermostat in my engine, there is a small nut on the top that is locked in place with some solder.
I wonder if its possible to adjust the opening temperature by adjusting the central rod

Build your own thermostat housing ! Either by welding parts together or casting one from alloy !
