Ebay Engine
Has anyone seen this engine http://www.ebay.com/itm/351419988952?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT at 870cc and 25hp seems like a really nice power to weight ratio V twin. I am looking at an older Harley ironhead sportster and think this might be a great engine for that project.

Re: Ebay Engine
I would be wary of its power rating.
I think It would be closer to 20hp maybe 21.

The Kubota Z482 seems to be on the rise. It's been around forever which says much for its reliability. Commonly found on refrigerator trucks (beware variant characteristics) and in Aixam cars: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aixam

Indeed, it does seem that there have been many builds with them over the past 2 years or so.Stuart wrote:The Kubota Z482 seems to be on the rise. Obsolete designs. Any of the Winsun/Pansun V-twins have those issues resolved.Diesel Dave wrote:2 snapped cranks

Re: Ebay Engine
Obsolete design?
Top half of each cylinder is the same as every Yanmar clone motor out there and they have to make up around 50% of the bikes on the road.
I think there were a couple of flaws in both the design and the materials; and some mounting errors that exacerbated the problems. Not resilient mounting the feet and using head steadies certainly put paid to quite a few casings.
There are some successful V twins - Yanmar made a nice water cooled lump and I believe Kipor also.

I think he was referring to the original batch that failed.

Yet every defect you listed was related to the bottom end.Diesel Dave wrote:Top half of each cylinder is the same as every Yanmar clone motor out there and they have to make up around 50% of the bikes on the road.
