Hi all
I think its time I cover up my belts that are spinning very close to my left legs.
using a sheet of Aluminium to fabricate a primary covery seems rather complicated. Is there a clever/better/easier way other people have done it?

Re: Primary covers
Think laterally. I presume your facilities don't stretch to fabrication
Cheap aluminium pots/pans can make effective covers for the clutch with cut outs for the belts and an appropriate size aluminium cup/small pot for the drive pulley.Possibly a cheap camping billy can set??
Then all you need is a long strip of aluminium to wrap around the whole thing.
You could add some sheet or a strip across the face joining and strengthening the cover?
On my MZ I used a stainless dog bowl and the lid from a coffee/tea caddy.
You can either rivet/bolt or even use adhesive to join it all together.
I would recommend making cardboard templates first and get all your sizes correct to make sure nothing is rubbing on the belts and allow a bit for the belt to flex.
You can then maybe mark it out on a wooden board and fix the 2 round covers securely while attaching the wrap around strip??
Of course if the rain is not a problem using the same thought process a half guard could be made up similar to the rear chain guards??
Another idea might be to see if you can get a guard from a lathe, drill, garden type machine to start you off?

Re: Primary covers
I'm liking the half guard idea. My belts don't slip, even in the rain. I'm normally pretty good with coming uo with ideas, but I have to have the pieces of the puzzle in front of me
Half guard should be pretty easy to make out of Ali.
Thanks!

You have to remember any guard is not just to stop yourself getting hurt but also members of the public.
I know it's unlikely but you have to think of these possibilities these days.
On that subject what about a VW type belt cover? You might get a second hand one but obviously the size will have to be checked

Re: Primary covers
I like the idea of the second one.
It should be relatively easy to make one like that with aluminium strip and aluminum mesh as well.
I cant find dimensions of that cover anywhere

Re: Primary covers
You'll have to keep a tape measure handy and ask any unsuspecting beetle owner if you can measure the distance between the pulley centres and the dia of each pulley
You never know someone on the forum might have or know of a beetle??
