Hello,
So, I've been searching high and low for an air-cooled vtwin engine within 2 hours of my place or with a reasonable shipping fee...
I live in SE Pa in West Chester (about 45 minutes out of Philadelphia) and I've tried most of the local (and one not so local) lawn mower / equipment rental companies (Neimeyer's, Knox's, Rutt's, and another I forget the name of)... either they or their suppliers don't deal in small air-cooled diesels or they just don't deal in v-twins. I still have one more lawn mower shop to check out, but I'm getting disheartened by all of the confused responses basically all saying "I don't even know where you'd begin to look."
I'd like to stick with a v-twin to try and keep the vibrations down and so I could put a turbo on it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
-Ian

Re: Finding an engine...
Most everyone here from US have found them with classsifieds or ordered them. You won't find them local at small engine like places usually but it is still good to put out feelers at them. Give them a card or flyer to post on their bulletin board; if they have one would be a good one to do to.
Hit Craigslist, and ebay. Any other local classified too. Just keep searching daily.

Not exactly in your neighborhood. BTW, the part needed for the Punsun is readily available. And the Yanmar is the vertical model but can be tipped up with little work.

I appreciate the hits, I'm going to email the fellow about the Punsun, what would I call that drilled out part though? Engine case? And where/who would I order it from?

Re: Finding an engine...
I'm cheap, but if the hole didn't otherwise jeopardize the integrity of the engine, I punch out a plug and TIG it in place. Did I mention I'm cheap. Not sure what it's called. I used the term PTO end nose case - likely has it's origins in radial engines.
We have a lad from the Punsun factory posting on here of late by the name of "Jason". Reports that he can get you any part you want. Check this thread.

Otherwise, CS might be able to source the parts for you.

I'd still much prefer the updated casting with the carry-through bolts.

Re: Finding an engine...
I was thinking about just welding it up... I have a spool gun and some aluminum wire for my MIG.
I haven't seen the old casting, so I don't know how it compares to the updated one... What is the benefit of the carry through bolts?

Re: Finding an engine...
Some discussion in the thread below regarding a history of broken cranks with the Chinese V-Twins. Speculation as to the benefit of carry-through bolts is mere conjecture on my part. See the thread.

But, for $400 you haven't stuck your neck out too far.

Re: Finding an engine...
I just wanted to update my situation.
I've been trying to get in contact with the owner of the $400 Punsun since saturday, having sent 3 emails now, I've had no response as of yet.
I was wondering if anyone else has heard of anything on or near the east cost?
Thanks,
-Ian
