mz diesel
It passed the MOT test today.
Only problem was the low wattage halogen bulb. It was giving a scattered beam.Friendly tester fitted a standard bulb at no cost, problem sorted.
I just need to go down the post office tomorrow and tax it for the year and another diesel bike hits the road
I can now concentrate on gearing etc.
I've also bought a 2cv alternator so I will get that sorted before venturing any distance.

Re: mz diesel
It's now completely legal to use
Over the weekend I might try to get a video uploaded but as yet I can't take it far until the charging is sorted out.
I was hoping to get to the Bat and Ball but it's not to be this year
Although he doesn't know it I must thank Dougy for giving me the inspiration to finally finish off the MZ. It's been a few years

I've taken the drive side off and am fabricating brackets etc. for the 2cv alternator so it's not quite ready for it's debut on dieselbike yet.

Re: mz diesel
Received the drive pulley for the alternator belt today. Bit of a delay due to the public holiday for the Queens Jubilee.
Just spent a couple of hours in the garage getting the alignment correct and with a bit of luck and a few hours over the weekend it should be up and working.
I'll take some pics this weekend if it stops raining
I'll have to make a flywheel/belt cover as I had to remove the Robin cover to allow the pulley and belt to work.
I'll also have to rework the air intake/filter as the alternator now occupies the space where the filter used to be.
Nothing a big hammer/grinder/welder can't sort out
There is always something else

Here is the latest pic. Due to the amount of rain we've been having I bought a fairing from ebay. If it keeps raining the next step will be flotation devices

Re: mz diesel
Very nice. Does this fairing help with the topend at all, or does it just keep you dry?

Re: mz diesel
I don't think it helps top end but it certainly keeps me dry
A new cvt belt will probably help more
As a bonus I now get warm air over my legs from the cooling fan.
I actually bought 2. I have a white one as well. It's a Rickman fairing and it came with the main fitting for an ETZ250 although I had to make some minor fittings and modify the main support which runs under the MZ beam frame as I've added a down tube which the MZ doesn't have.
It also helps disguise the cvt on the left side.

Re: mz diesel
Big advantage over an Enfield build I'd say, if you plan to ride it when the sun is obscured by rainclouds anywaygilburton wrote:I don't think it helps top end but it certainly keeps me dry

Re: mz diesel
Trouble with the UK,and I expect Holland as well, is that you can set off on a perfectly sunny day and come back soaking so the fairing helps to get you to your destination without stopping to put on waterproofs or makes the odd shower a better experience.
At the speeds we go I also find I don't need to bother too much about goggles etc. as I wear an open face helmet.
It does add some bulk but you get used to it. I did consider a windscreen.
I find some sort of protection makes the journey more pleasant although engine noise is greater. I'm getting old

Re: mz diesel
Nanko suggested to run open pipe, but it was too loud for my taste
