Hi from Newcastle NSW
Hi Everyone, about a year ago I met a man on his Enfield diesel conversion at the miniature steam in Edgeworth.
I was quite intrigued by the bike, not knowing much about diesels and being very impressed with the fuel economy. And so the seeds were sown!
The gentleman was most helpful and pointed me( I think) to this site. The bike was beautifully done (looked factory to me) and he said this was his 2nd, bigger engine. I think from memory and looking at pics it could be a Yanmar.
Are any of you this man or do you know him as I would love to have another look at the bike and get the lowdown on the build. I would like to do the same. I'm not too scared of the project as I am doing a basket Indian Scout resto.
Also another question.
As a long time Guzzi owner, I can't work something out. Guzzis usually do about 120kph in top gear with the engine doing 4000rpm. That is the start of the sweet spot in the power and they go on for about 3500rpm more. If some one puts a diesel in one, (or a bmw for that matter) and mates it to the stock gearbox, and the diesels seem to have MAX rpm of 4000, does that mean they then have a top speed of 120kph? Am I missing something? The final drive gearing can be changed but not by that much.
Anyway, thanks for a fantastic forum!
Regards,
Brad.

I think that is exactly what it means. Nanko has mated a TUD5 to a Guzzi box, maybe he can enlighten you towards the finer points of Guzzi gearbox tweaking. Not quite sure what his bike does in final drive.

I think he changed the exhaust system and it sounds even better now!

Re: Hi from Newcastle NSW
The original finalgearing is 7:33 , I used the 9:34 IdroConvert bevel.
Now 120 KM/h is 3200 rpm.
Next improvement is a V11 (carc) final , it has 12:44 ratio.
Unfortunately there is offset between gearbox and V11 final shaft , and a different driveshaft/universal joint
has to be constructed.
It can be done, all material is on the shelf, its just a matter of time....

Hi Blokes,
Thanks for all that info on the Guzzi's Nanko. I'm not sure I could hobble a guzzi and too expensive an option for me anyway. Cheap and cheeerful ( ie Slow!) it is for me, hence enfield and 20 hp diesel.
Can't really ride fast in Australia anymore- too many coppers and speed cameras. And I support my family on a bus driver licence, so extra sensitive about speeding fines!
Still hoping to hear from the chap I met here in Newcastle. Was that you, andrewaust? I've looked at your build log and the bike seems to look the same( by memory).
Kind Regards Everyone,
Brad.
ps, where can I find your bike on Youtube, Nanko?

Hi Jazzman
Yes, that would have been me you were talking too at the model trains at Edgeworth , welcome to the forum mate, I've been seriously ill so don't get to roam around the forum sometimes for a while.
Arranging a date might be hard to do, but if I'm feeling well enough I will be going up to the bike show in Greta on this Sunday 18th March, just after midday if the weather is fine.
The bike is definitely not factory built , just used my Mechanical Engineering skills to build the bike - the link you must have seen is this one here: http://www.dieselbike.net/AndrewsRoyalE ... nfield.htm , that is my build mate. I've added newer mirrors, bars and hand controls etc to make the bike look a little more looked after .
Great to see you are interested in a bike yourself, and nice to see you have come onto the forum. Don't be afraid to ask questions as the fellowship here will try to help in anyway they can.
Here's a couple of my Youtube vids

Hi Andrew,
So sorry to hear you have been seriously ill. I sincerely hope you are on the mend, mate.
Appologies for taking so long to reply-I've been away.
When I said your bike looked like a factory job, I meant it looked so nicely done!
I'm not sure if you are up to it, but I would love to have a chat and closer look at your bike sometime.
I'm on holidays during the school holidays and might drive up to Paterson with the family for up bit of a look around and a picnic. Maybe we could meet up?
Kind Regards,
Brad.

Re: Hi from Newcastle NSW
Maybe you could make Andrew an offer on his bike? It might be up for sale?
