Hi all, I have been interested in diesel bikes for a while now, I currently have an 08 Ural outfit which I would love to convert down the road. I have seen the 2G40 Hatz used for this convesion which seems to fit without major frame modification.
Anyway I will be reading this complete site and asking those same questions other noobs have asked.

I could be wrong but I think that the Urals require frame lengthening. This could be a problem with rego.
You'd definitely need an engineers report if your in NSW. Fellow member Andrewaust can tell you.
Here in SA its quite easy to change rego, since no frame mods were done my Diesel Enfield only needed changing a few engine details on the rego papers. And it didn't cost a cent for the change.
As long as the compliance plate stays intact here I could probably get away with cutting the frame and fitting a Chinese v-twin.

That is my understanding as well BUT.. if you go to a CVT to short jack shaft with attached Ujoint to drive the driveshaft.... you might not have to.DieselDan wrote:Gday Sean

Welcome to the forum - yes you will need an engineering certificate, I'd also advise not to cut the frame, our legislation is ridiculously strict here in NSW. If you had/have no option, first seek out a certified RTA engineer "try as many as you can " and take it from there. I was thinking of cutting the frame on the Enfield to aid the placing of a starter motor, from the red tape B.S I didn't worry and glad I didn't as it's a breeze to kick start anyway.
Source out the information before purchasing parts etc, it will avoid frustration and financial loss.
You also have to be mindful there was a date "I think around 2000" that attracts pollution testing, the reason I purchased a 95 model bike for the project. The RTA engineer will fill you in anyway - just don't go to the first guy you call, interestingly enough some are sharper then others, also more lenient.
