failure

Post by DieselFly »

Well it was the last weekend of summer a friend came by this morning and we were off for a ride. I made it about 3 miles when the jackshaft broke in two  . It was a torsional break so I called home for a rescue with a trailer. I have 953 miles on the bike and this was the first time it failed to get me home. I bought the shaft at a shop that has alot of junk from China so it was probably made out of melted down Lada's. I will get some hardened shaft tomorrow and put it back togeather. So there went one of the last 23C days left so I spent the rest of the day sealing the driveway thinking of the ride I was missing.

On the bright side, it's not the crank of which Zem has already replaced 3 I think. Should be cheaper to replace too. Good luck!

Its a $10 fix. I'm trying to get some case hardened shaft. I think the problem is the shaft is only 3/4" but that was the only size the kit I bought came is. I may bore and broach it to 1" over the winter I will put 3/4" back for now and use a better source than the Chinese tool store.
