small diesel engine rotation?

Post by aaronxs400 »

I just picked up an Eastern Tool and Equipment 178F Diesel engine.
Specs state that:
Rotation direction(view from flywheel): clockwise.

Is the backwards from a typical motorcycle engine? I went to motorcycle mechancis school but I cant for the life of me remember which way is conventional.

I am considering using a honda 350f transmission like the fellow on here as I have two scrape engines sitting at my house that I could harvest the transmissions out of. would my engine rotation be the same as the engine he used? (yanmar 100)

thanks in advance.

Hi Aaron,

I would assume yes, but if you want to make sure just compare it to the information from an L100 manual. Remember, these engines are clones so changing the rotation opposite of a Yanmar would not make sense.
'92 Enfield + Hatz 1B40: street legal, weld up stainless exhaust, check engine rpm and change final drive sprocket.

all engines with a few exceptions are CCW on drive side CW on flywheel side. Stationary engines always drive on opposite side to flywheel. Motorcycle engines can be designed to run in either direction depending wether the drive is by chain or drive cog to the clutch.
