I asked in the last post in another thread I started: https://www.dieselbikeforum.com/view ... =31&t=1723
I was wondering if anyone knew the dimensions of the frame around the motor/gearbox on the YX600 Radian. I did some measuring but I'm unsure.

Perkins
It may just be that I haven't looked hard enough but I haven't spotted any Perkins (at least those featured on the site) used in any motorcycle builds. I was curious as to the reason why. Is it pricing, size, or weight? Based on specs it really shouldn't be a potential lack of performance. Just a bi...

Re: Theoretical Yamaha XS 650
I wasn't sure if I should've started a new topic for a simple question. A coworker is selling a Yamaha (yes, another Yamaha) YX600 "radion" that's in pretty damn good condition for 800. Fun little bike and with my resources at work--including other coworkers-- any mods would be relatively ...

Re: Rotary Diesel
Editting my post as I was able to answer my own question. I like these external dimensions: 20"L x 21"W x 13"H http://www.freedom-motors.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=110&Itemid=73 Granted, it doesn't say which displacement since the rated power is even ...

Re: Rotary Diesel
I would be really shocked if the motor got 115-120 mpg (assuming my conversion was correct). Granted, I won't knock those claims until I see it for myself. That would be really cool if it did work out that way.

Re: Rotary Diesel
Thanks, my bad.
My only problem is that the rotary motor would at least ruin the entire reason I'm getting a diesel motor; economy. At least all that I've either messed with or heard of (a friend of mine has an RX-7) they were gas guzzlers by design. Be fun in a performance bike though.

That's pretty bad. I wonder would they'd be able to do now with modern technology and a type 1 motor. There's been some pretty crazy bug-builds out there.

Re: Hills, hills, hills
I have been looking at some of those as well. Thing with them is whenever I look on ebay I'm still looking at prices of $3k+ unless it's a junked motor. Generally speaking too I see "local pickup only". Maybe I'm just not looking at the right places for all this. I did find a site where th...

That's good you got out of the financial bind. I was there too. Selling a few guns, some electronics, etc. Pretty much anything I didn't need to survive or that was my wife's.
I was just curious is all.

Re: New Subaru 2.0 Litre common Rail Diesel Boxer engine
It shouldn't be the first boxer diesel. Didn't VW do it as a prototype for a bug with the 1.3 liter?
Regardless, really cool motor.

TedV:
Do you know how I'd get a one of the Lupo motors shipped over here? My googling isn't really getting me anywhere. Same with the diesel Smart engine.
Sphere:
Yeah, that'd be convenient. Problem is I love the hills and the mountains. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Texas is a little too far methinks. They'd be really cool to have though.

The motor I originally posted was listed as diesel on one site and gas on another. More sites list it as gasoline rather than diesel so I think I should just disregard this one for now.

Theoretical Yamaha XS 650
Alright, I've been forming an idea in my mind based on some reading. While I've got some mechanical knowledge almost none of it is with motorcycles. I kind of figured it wouldn't be that hard to make the swap but you never know. As the title indicated the XS650 is the bike I had in mind for the buil...

Re: Hills, hills, hills
Oh, yeah. A friend of mine is sitting on a Jetta right now that he'd sell (entire car) for $500. The transmission too is kind of a weak link with the second project I had in mind and haven't even bothered touching for that coupled with financial reasons (it'd be way more expensive than anything else...

Re: Hills, hills, hills
I wouldn't mind the smaller engines at all. Be easier to work on, better economy, etc. But it'd end up being more than just a commuter bike. I'd eventually be making trips to other places in the state. Even going from Yakima over to Seattle over one of the passes. I guess this was more a common sens...

Hills, hills, hills
I've been looking through the site and I've been curious about the power that I'd need for my area while still keeping the economy that I'm looking for in a diesel bike. If anyone knows the region I'm in Eastern Washington State (USA) with my town sitting at the bottom of a valley. To go virtually a...

New guy on the site. Been interested in the concept of a diesel bike for years but never knew any were actually made let alone mass produced. Figured this would be a good place to start out. Currently 23 years old and from Yakima, Washington (state). Recently got back from a tour in Afghanistan and ...
