but they stopped using them because they werent reliable. too many bits to go wrong. essentially you have your sarter motor running all the time and that is going to have wear problems essentially. and wht advantage have you gained? you might save a few kilos of starter moror but fit it to an engine...

and that opposed piston engine with the 4 pistons in just 2 cylinders is very reminiscent of the deltic train engine built in preston in the 1950's, bit big for a bike, but they were fitted in boats, iirc they were using 34 cylinders with 3 crankshafts and 48 pistons with a turbocharger and getting ...

iirc werent ford experimenting with 2 stroke diesel engines for small fiesta sized cars in the 1990s, i seem to recall that queens university belfast were involved somehow too. from memory they were getting decent performance with a turbo and exceptional economy too.

ha ha ha, paul carter, that name rings a bell. his first book, ('dont tell mum i work on the rigs, she thinks im a piano player in a whorehouse') is absolutely fooking hilarious. its the story of his life working in the oil industry, and is laugh out loud funny. i think i'll buy this on the strength...

well its still here, near blackpool, i'll give it a fortnight and then i'll scrap it. the generator and trolley alone will probably fetch 20-25 quid from the scrappy, so anyone buying it will be getting the motor for 15 quid, and if thats not worth having then i really do despair!
