Re: Mating a VW engine, frame, and transmission
Thanks for the replies so far! The bike that is in the links was one I saw on you tube, so I knew it could be done in some form...still would really like a standard motorcyle gear box if I can swing it. I simply am not familiar with the gear boxes used on the big V-twins to know how much torque they...

Re: Mating a VW engine, frame, and transmission
TedV, Thank you very much for the reply! I am still learning about the various VW diesels that were available here in the US. It would certainly be a whole lot easier to have an engine that doesn't need a computer. I just am uneducated in the pre TDI diesels...need to keep reading I guess! :) I had ...

Mating a VW engine, frame, and transmission
Hey all, I'm not sure if this is the right spot to put this, but here goes... I thought I had my project bike all figured out, I was going to use a 3 cyl Yanmar out of a John Deere garden tractor, but after looking under the hood of my Dad's VW Beetle TDI, it made me wonder how well a motor like tha...

Re: Considering a build...need direction
If we are considering the front wheel North, the motor will be a east- west orientation. Figured it would be easier to adapt a transmission to it that way. I'm thinking of some type of cruiser, that either has, or can add a bat wing style fairing, and hard bags...for some reason I am recently wantin...

Re: Considering a build...need direction
Well, I've settled on a motor...a little 3 cylinder Yanmar, now I just need to rebuild it, and find a donor frame to accept the motor. Anybody know of a good frame that is steel?

Re: Considering a build...need direction
Thank you Stuart! I imagine that is similar motor wise to what I am thinking of building...happened to see some his you tube videos, and knew that it could be done....which was why I am now trying to persue it. I had hoped that he documented his build on here, as I get more familiar with the layout ...

Considering a build...need direction
Hey All, I recently had the thought of putting a diesel engine in a motorcycle, did a search on you tube, and found some good stuff to watch. I also did a Google search, and found this site, which I'm guessing will be helpful for me in the future. I am in the earliest stages of even taking on this p...
