Diesel biking?
Odd thread but bear with me. I'm not a petrol head, I'm a diesel head. So that's one box ticked. I've got a diesel daily car and an xud9te powered se7en knockoff. But I'm getting a bit tired of cars. The room they take up being a major drag, for one. The only time I've owned a bike is when I was 16 ...

I got a copy 2nd hand last week, just finished the book. I really enjoyed it, had me laughing out loud a few times  Does anyone know any more about the HPDM land speed bike? I can't find much online other than their attempt was rained off a couple of times. http://www.dlra.org.au/profiles/846.h...

Re: Good news for UK classic riders
This is the first thread on all the forums I use that see this as positive. Most people seem very skeptical and are worried about it being a small step towards bringing everything in line with europe. Concerns I've read about are people worrying that insurance will go up, worries that insurers might...

That's excluding VAT so £355.20 including. So $568.86 USD (using xe.com/ucc for currency conversion)gilburton wrote:Gemini Karts in the UK are currently selling the CVTECH 2 pulleys and belt for £296
CVT idea
Had an idea today after reading about CVTs on this forum, thought I'd bounce it around. Probably cloud cuckoo land stuff :D I read someone saying that the CVT units commonly used are designed for gokarts etc. Things with small rear wheels and higher revving engines. As small diesel engines don't rev...

Re: Back (again!)
thanks :) the thought of owning a 1.9 turbo diesel motorbike tuned up to ~120bhp....... it would be brilliant! 8) no probs! :) Yeah that would be nice with the bosch pump for easy tuning & veg oil compatibility. I read Practical performance car magazine and James Pickering has a 1.9td with 182h...

Re: Back (again!)
Thanks for the offer :) If you could, an overall length including the crank pulley and flywheel would be useful..... Hi, been to workshop today and had a quick measure. It's 51cm from front of crank pulley to rear of the starter ring. I have an auto flywheel, not a manual so I'd imagine you'd have ...

Hi, I've got an XUD9TE engine on my workbench at the moment (ancillaries removed), let me know if you want any pics or measurements from itIgorVigor wrote: the thing is though, I believe I can get diesel engines from cars/vans quite cheap.....
I'd have a choice of the Peugeot XUD9 (1.9D or TD)

Re: What transmission...
Thanks for the info :) Normally aspirated diesel engines are very inefficient at high revs is there a 'rule of thumb' as to what RPM or % of total power a small diesel engine is at it's most efficient? Can't seem to find much about it on the interweb. I remember for petrol engines it's something lik...

What transmission...
I've been gathering parts for my reverse trike over the last year and I'll soon be starting to do some mock ups. I'm still undecided on what to use in terms of transmission. I'm torn between a pre-unit gearbox or a CVT setup. Can a CVT setup be as efficient as manual? That's what I'm really after. P...

Thanks for the info. I passed sept 2001. I have B, B1, C, C1 but I guess i'd still need my bike license Rather old bump, found this on direct.gov website so it looks like I can drive a lightweight trike without a bike license, unless I'm missing something? http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/5866/98...

Cleaning exhaust ports
I've got a lombardini engine which I've taken the cylinder heads off and there is heavy carbon buildup in the exhaust ports. Is this quite common with generator engines as they sit as the same rpm for long periods? I don't want to go at it with some sharp implement and damage the aluminum underneath...

Engine guide?

Re: I'm Benzine from Leicestershire, UK
The Aixam 500 uses a Kubota diesel with a CVT transmission, and struggles to get to 55mph... And averages 70mpg... I've looked at the aixam and it's quite a heavy beast for what it is. I'd be building a space frame chassis and reducing weight in many areas: wheels (both number of and lighter, thinn...

Re: I'm Benzine from Leicestershire, UK
Thanks for the welcomes! Firstly, welcome. Secondly, I dont know, but I thought there was a minimum weight when you ride a trike on a car license? Thirdly, a generator engined trike is going to be VERY slow... 25~30hp isnt a lot for a trike... Do you want a trike with similar performance to an Aixam...

I'm Benzine from Leicestershire, UK
Benzine, dutch for petrol. Not the best name on a derv bike site but it's been my nickname since school :P I've tinkered with cars since early teens and I've built a kit car. I have a 1972 bedford TK which got me into liking diesels 8) I love the idea of using a small diesel engine on a vehicle. I d...
