Re: sneak peak at the new diesel bike build

One is a c1.1 powered softail. Mostly complete. The next is a d1105 powered softail with some really nice work going into it. The third is a sportster frame with a twin cyl c.5 and cvt trans. A few others are in the quote/ idea stage. So I am populating the country with diesel bikes! I will try to g...

Re: sneak peak at the new diesel bike build

Small update. I have been busy with moving and lots of work taking my time but I did manage to get the bike running and have it almost done. I have 3 other diesel bikes being built and they are priority. I have to build a fender/seat, hook up alternator, mount battery, build controls and plumb brake...

Re: sneak peak at the new diesel bike build

Thanks for the good words! Coach, there is a large assortment of belts available as well as pulleys in the harley type market. If that is exhausted looking to industrial belt suppliers is next, many more sizes to be had there as well. The belts and pulleys are not cheap when sorced new, but the perf...

Re: US engine Reefer unit as a source for diesel engine?

Unless the engine has alot of blowby, leave the internals. If the cyl/pistons are scored/worn, the rebuild would be a must. Boring out to an oversize will not give a noticable increase in hp. A td02 turbo and adjustments to the max rpm and max fuel screws will make a decent hp increase on a budget. ...

Re: sneak peak at the new diesel bike build

The yanmar did not lose any height because the pan was wide, and still held 1.5 gal with capacity reduced by 1 gal. The best way to fit an engine low is make the oil pan sit between frame rails. Depth is important because oil will slosh front to rear and a shallow pan may let the pickup run dry in c...

Re: US engine Reefer unit as a source for diesel engine?

I used a tk395 (thermo king name for a 958cc 3 cyl yanmar) on my first bike. Did not require any govenor mods. I did half the capacity of the oil pan though.

Re: sneak peak at the new diesel bike build

Im using a d1005. I used a similar pan on my old yanmar bike, that came from a thermo king unit. I would be very weary using the mounts in the pan. Certainly not in a rigid mount situation.

Progress may be delayed on this bike for a little bit, have another bike to build.

Re: sneak peak at the new diesel bike build

The lower oil tank will be allways completely filled. Another tank above it will be where the scavenge pump dumps the airated oil, swirling around the tank. In that tank are baffles to separate air and oil. After separation it flows down to to storage tank. It should allways be full because the scav...

Welded up header, and start of the oil tank. This will be the storage tank the oil will flow to after leaving the deairation tank.

Yes, thats it. I have not had time to look into it, but it should be able to make good power if the fueling is there. Don't worry, i will post a build thread.

Re: The MagBike

I would build a 3 cyl, and you can keep the bike weight near 600lbs somewhat easily. Driveline set up seems much more easy. A 1000cc engine can make very good power with some boost and fuel. 50hp is no big deal with most of them. My caterpillar powered bike 3cyl will go 120mph (runs out of gear) wit...

Re: sneak peak at the new diesel bike build

All material ordered to build the front end. I have decided to build a monicoil linkage front end, similar to a springer with a few diffrences should make a good performing fork set up.

Thanks for the good words, stay tuned.

Re: sneak peak at the new diesel bike build

Ran into an issue with ring fittment that needed .004 taken off the axial height of the new top rings. Pistons are already hard anodized so recutting ring grooves was a non option.

I don't think that engine has near enough strength to handle any real increase in power. You read of plenty failures with no modifications at all.

Look into the 3cyl liquid cooled engines for higher performance builds.

Re: punsun + nos

If you have extra fuel to burn, nitrous will provide the additional oxygen to burn it. It has other benefits in a turbocharged set up, as it can "light" a large turbocharger, getting it spooling and making boost by creating the needed drive pressure. But in a diesel you must be very carefu...

Thanks dougy, ill be done as fast as i can! I have a ton of other work to do other than the bike, so it may be a while.

Next step is to remove crank, and bring the rotating assembly to be balanced. Then comes final assembly! (I hope!)

Re: sneak peak at the new diesel bike build

Yes, a spring loaded tensioner will cause issues on deceleration. Hard downshifts will slide the rear tire and that force is certainly enough to move the tensioner. Fixed adjustable tensioners work best. You can design one possibly with a small piston and a grease fitting, pump grease until properly...

Re: sneak peak at the new diesel bike build

Engine non adjustable, trans on slots and primary plate holding the fixed distance for proper belt tension. This plate keeps the flywheel pulley and clu...
