From what smart people have told me, a turbo on a single cylinder is useless, because there is too much time between the tur...

Clemen Keonhardt's Gunbus has a Motogadget tachometer. I checked out the website and discovered Motogadget has some very neat products. Pricey, but as usual you get what you pay for. I wish I had found this stuff before designing the electrics for my project. I might make a few changes yet... http:/...

GunBus Torquemeister
Slightly old news, but Clemens Leonhardt finished that monster V-twin that was in the background of the picture of the Hatz-powered diesel. If we need inspiration as to how to integrate components in a seemingly impossible jigsaw puzzle, this is it. The execution is flawless - a masterpiece. And 523...

In a parallel circuit the current is divided among the components based on the resistance of each. The voltage is the same for each component, when installed each glow plug on the bus would get approximately 1/3 of the available current. A glow plug would probably burn out more quickly by testing it...

Karcoma Fuel Petcock Adapter for Dnepr
Here's a picture of an adapter nut I made up for fitting a Karcoma fuel tap to a Dnepr fuel tank. Over the years 1950's - 1995 the Karcoma and similar Germa, Everbest petcocks were fitted on BMWs. The post 1973 version is most reliable. A rebuild consists of replacing one rubber seal/gasket. I've us...

No telling who copied who, but Jeff Parker, who built the diesel / hydraulic drive cruiser a couple years ago built a very similar looking hydraulic 2WD bike called the Raccoon last year powered by a Honda petrol engine. There's a 3:33 minute video of the bike at the link below. Likely more hp than ...

Tachometer Drivers
Here are a couple solutions that may help you connect almost any electronic tachometer to your engine. There's a really neat gizmo called an electronic ratio box which converts the signal frequency (i.e. rpm) from a magnetic pickup, hall effect, or alternator signal to an output signal of a differen...

An uneducated guess is that if the compression of the petrol engine can be raised sufficiently by exchanging the pistons, the claimed altered combustion process and elimination of diesel knock may cause in petrol engine-like stresses on the bottom end, meaning the engine might not require any change...

A cylinder head temperature gauge will give you a good idea what is going on in the combustion chamber. You can likely find a used gauge on EBay for $50. Allow another $20 for a thermocouple if there's none with the gauge. Accompanied by an oil temperature gauge, you should be able to determine if t...

A simple formula that calculates hp/max speed with decent accuracy (prone position, no wind, level road) is: mph = (cube root of horsepower) * 30 The easiest way to use the formula is: (mph/30 ) cubed = horsepower required examples: (60mph/30) = 2 X 2 X 2 = 8hp 80mph/30) = 2.67 X 2.67 X 2.67 = 19hp ...

You can simplify things a lot by getting an alternator with internal regulator. The 480 watt Denso unit used on the Daihatsu D950 has 3-wires. You'll need a 50 amp relay for the glow plugs, regardless whether or not you use a timer. Depending on the starter model, a starter relay may not be required...

Another thought. The 280 watt Bosch alternator from a Moto Guzzi or aircooled BMW mounts on the end of the crankshaft and is good for over 7000 rpm. You would have to make a mount for the stator. The BMW rotor mounts onto a taper on the end of the crankshaft, I don't know about Moto Guzzi. BMW setup...
