Re: Tapered output shafts
I've found out that tapered shafts are only supposed to be used with constant speed applications, such as generators and compressors. If I machine or have machined a taper on a belt drive pulley which is fairly soft I run the risk of the thing spinning on the taper. The boss I'm using to mount the s...

Re: Ruggerini MD151 hunting
Dave, I believe the hunting was caused by the timing on one cylinder being slightly different to the other. When I checked the timing by the fuel rising up the tube at the start of injection I found the two cylinders varied. I tracked it down to the working area of the "buckets" that go be...

Tapered output shafts
Hi all, I'm looking for a company that sells pulleys or sprockets for tapered driveshafts. Considering that a high percentage of the engines we use when converting a bike from petrol to diesel are equipped with tapered drive shafts, there seems to be nobody supplying them. The info on the tapers see...

Ruggerini MD151 hunting
Hi All , I've recently got my Ruggerini 151 engined Enfield on the road and after a lot of playing with the gearing I've now got a bike i'm happy with apart from the engine is "hunting" (like when you leave the choke on) on tickover and at low revs. The air cleaner is the correct one for t...

Re: Lazy 15 HP yanclone?
Hi, Have you checked that the valve (tappet) clearance is - Inlet 0.1 & ex 0.15. at TDC.(assuming its the same as the 188FB) If this is out it does definitely effect the performance. Also check that the de-compressor is fully releasing. Mine used to stick when it was new.

Re: Ruggerini Engine upgrade.
I am now in a position to answer my own question. The Ruggerini MD151 has a long enough crankshaft to be able to turn it down to 1" for 3" and mill a 1/4" keyway in it. I will then be able to use the taperlock sprocket provided by Priceparts for my Winsun conversion. An added bonus is...

Ruggerini Engine upgrade.
Hi All, I am the proud owner of a Yanmar clone Enfield which I enjoy enormously. I have been considering an engine upgrade and after much deliberation I've decided that a suitable contender would be a Ruggerini MD151. Before I seriously start hunting for an engine there is a problem that I'm having ...

Re: Oil pressure on Winsun 188FB
Dave, Went to Halfords (bike shop) and bought a 9 function cycle computer which the guy said should do the job. I haven't tried to get my head around it yet. It is wireless so I should have checked back on here first. nevermind. More importantly I went out on the bike today and am getting increasing...

Re: Oil pressure on Winsun 188FB
Dave, "A bicycle speedo" ? Are they some sort of electronic gadget these days. I will investigate this further. If its a little digital thing, that could be just what I'm looking for.

Re: Oil pressure on Winsun 188FB
Thanks for the replies, its reassuring to know there's nothing wrong with ski-high oil pressure. I've got the bike on the road, mot'd etc. At first I found it to be undergeared (18t g/box sprocket as advised). I've partially overcome this by fitting a huge/tall 400x19 rear tyre. I'm happy to just ge...

Oil pressure on Winsun 188FB
Hi All, I am finishing off a 1979 Enfield diesel using an engine and frame mods etc from Price Parts. I thought it would be a good idea to fit a oil pressure gauge. When I start the engine, at anything above tickover the gauge goes straight to max (100 psi) I've tried three different gauges and the ...
