Re: Honda Rebel Kubota
If not mistaken, using a hosting site like Photobucket risks losing the pics from this board if they are removed from the hosting site. Well, that is exactly what happened. They got greedy and now demand $400/year just for the ability to view images off their site. So I told them to screw off and d...

See youtube for Head Turner Customs. Sam Turner owner. He has successfully turboed single cylinder diesel's. https://www.youtube.com/user/Dieselmonkey89 That guy is a joke, he has no mechanical sense and absolutely no understanding of how to tune a diesel. Just look at his trike, he is using plain ...

Re: Effect of CVT when using a Governed Engine
CVT works great with a variable speed governor. Your hand maintains a steady speed and the CVT automatically adjusts ratio as load changes. You only use as much RPM as you need to maintain target road speed. The only major improvement to the setup (besides more power...) would be the ability to manu...

Re: Single Cylinder Diesels..... charging system
I have a 5 amp on my bike. With all LED lighting it is just enough to cover consumption plus a little left over for charging the battery from glowplug depletion. If you use a conventional headlight, you'll want 10amps minimum. If you use an electric starter you'll want 15-20amps to recharge the batt...

The closest thing we have in the USA is Propel's Diesel HPR that is Biodiesel made from animal fat/oil. http://www.dieselhpr.com/ Right now they are only in California but I was able to use a few tanks of it last time I was there. It definitely burned much cleaner and stronger than diesel but withou...

Re: Honda Rebel Kubota
I decided to fix it and put a crossmember for more reinforcement. The Royal Enfield voltage regulator I am using couldn't keep up with the massive 20amp alternator, it would get past 17v and the lithium battery would cut off in self protection. Sine the engine needs a 400CA battery and I don't have ...

Went to fit the stator today and found a broken frame tube.
At this point, I am ready to move on to something more powerful. If I don't get a buyer by June, I might fix it.

2006 Honda Rebel Kubota diesel
2006 Honda Rebel I converted to a Kubota OC95 DIESEL and CVT transmission. I have put 4800 miles on it over the last three years and averaged 90.1mpg. It runs great, just not sports bike fast because it has 9.5hp. It has been all over Colorado and even to the top of Mt. Evans! Top speed is geared to...

Re: Honda Rebel Kubota
Getting ready to ride again.
Got the high output stator so the battery can be recharged quickly and I can use the electric starter.
Recoil was nice and interesting, but it broke last November and the replacement would cost twice as much as the stator.

563 miles per belt is absurd.
My first belt lasted 2000 miles and my current one has over 3000 miles.

Re: another older Bantam 2 stroke conversion 1952
2 stroke diesels are just as dirty as gas engines. By nature, there is no way to fully evacuate the exhaust gas unless you waste some airbox pressure out the exhaust. In the case of turbocharging, that means the airbox must be higher pressure than the exhaust manifold. That means either the turbo wi...

Re: BMW twin converted to diesel
Definitely doable. IDI engines with a swirl chamber can use flat-top pistons. I'd be worried about sufficient bearing surface area, rod strength and flywheel weight. Interesting thing about using the lighter gasser parts would be limiting low end torque and letting it revv above the normal 3600-4500...

Re: Hey from Chicagoland
it has been about thirty five years since I popped the hood of a snowmobile. I'm sure they've come along way since then. For small sizes, not at all. They are still crude, quality is iffy and not well suited to low RPM diesels. I strongly suggest a conventional transmission. 5 or 6 speed if possible.

Re: Kawabota on Go fund me
$1m and 100 order goal? Sadly, that isn't a realistic target. You'd be lucky to get 10 genuine orders in your first 2 years, especially considering the engine alone is $10k (BIG tip, I'd remove that fact from your page ASAP as that will put off most potential interest). MotorEarth couldn't move 100 ...

Got the exhaust replaced. Much happier with this. Its mounted lower so it won't burn my leg at stops, has a flex pipe in the middle to absorb vibration and has a nice chrome end instead of plain pipe. I also deleted the front fender as it was looking pretty ratty after the attempt at mounting the pl...

Re: Dual sport yanmar l100w which gearbox?
If I were to build my bike again, I would not use a CVT. Its great in theory but it really needs manual or electronic control to work well in low-RPM applications where 500rpm can mean the difference between acceleration and bogging down. They work great in toy applications (snowmobile, ATV) because...

Yes, those are all for stationary electric motor driven devices. They are fixed speed/ratio and are adjusted manually.
They are also huge. Their 5hp model is over 9" in diameter, larger than the Comet 94C.

There are so many options out there, avoid the RE gearboxes. They are some of the worst designed and worst shifting boxes I have ever worked with.

Today I made it up the highest paved road in North America (Mt. Evans) with no trouble at all. It was able to maintain 30mph all the way up to the 14,000ft peak with power for a bit more if not for the dangerous road. Last year I tried this trip with the 14 tooth sprocket and it wouldn't pass 9,000f...

Re: Trike conversion
CVT will never be ideal without electronic or manual actuation. You will have to compromise: Holding maximum RPM for power/speed, but very high RPM for takeoff and low speed maneuvers. Low takeoff RPM and good economy, but "shifts up" early and limits top speed by lugging the engine. Mine ...
